About Ironwood

Ironwood Software, Inc. was founded in 1985 by Bill Becker originally to develop PRESSTO, a mainframe data compression package. PRESSTO is the successor to SHRINK, formerly marketed by Sterling Software. SHRINK, developed by Bill Becker in 1969, was the first commercially successful data compression product.

Besides PRESSTO and its database interfaces, Ironwood also sells the PC product, EVSOLVE, a general mathematical problem solver. EVSOLVE treats the variables of a problem as if they were genes on a strand of DNA which literally evolves to a solution to the user's problem.

Some of Ironwood's products are marketed by CA Technologies and the E-Net Corporation.
